We delve in to our cultural eating habits and look at food alternatives which will make our cultural meals healthier. I include useful tips to help you reduce or manage your body weight and include a table of nutrients essential to adopting a healthy body.
We take a look at how much we move daily whether at home or at work, with advice on easy ways to increase movement to maintain fitness, increase energy levels and reduce the risk of physical ailments, without going to the gym.
In this chapter I give you exercises you can do at home. Including Chair Exercise, Yoga type stretches, as well as circuit training exercises for a full body workout. There is something for everyone to take just one step at a time to work towards better health and fitness. Just think how great it will feel to be able keep up with your children or grandchildren!
We discuss the common diseases within the black community, identifying some of the symptoms, then advise on ways to ease symptoms and reduce the risk of development, in our day to day living.
All this and more as I add my personal experience of growing up in a Caribbean household to Bajan parents living in the UK.
My name is Paula Watson-Gardner a professional qualified Personal Training, Group Exercise Instructor, Health Coach,and Author and have been building my Health and Wellness Business for a number of years. My early years were spent as an athlete which I believe gave me a love for fitness and to respect the human body. Therefore I have spent much of my time supporting others who really want to improve their health anf fitness levels. My book Healthy Black Life: A Cultural Guide to Better Health is dedicated to supporting the black community in achieving better health and wellness.
